Dryer Vent Brush
Use a chimney brush at home. A good sweep keeps everything clean.
Regularly cleaning your dryer vent at home, is something that you should practice regularly. Over time, with regular use of a dryer, your vent will become clogged with lint, and other such items that go through the drying cycle. Not only can this be an enormous fire hazard, but also, it simply increases the time it takes to dry your clothes. That means you’ll have to use your dryer more often, and for longer periods of time than you would normally need. But by purchasing a simple dryer vent brush, you can cut down on your drying time, and ensure that your machine can run as safely as possible.
The way that a dryer vent brush works, is simply by allowing you to clean out your entire ventilation system, so that you can clean your clothing in confidence. They feature elongated tube construction, with a brush on the end, so that you can wind the device all over the entire length of the dryer tube. With a dryer vent brush you can ensure that the entire tube and vent stay completely clean, so that you don’t have to worry about the fire hazard. Plus, any brush will be compatible with your home ventilation system, no matter what type of dryer, or tubing you may have.
Once you buy a dryer vent brush, the process of cleaning your vent is literally as simple as detaching the piping from the dryer, and then running the brush along the inside. If you have metal piping, this will be extremely easy. The rigid composition will allow you to quickly pass the brush over each side so that the entire unit can be cleaned in no time at all. But if you have plastic tubing, you’ll find that the process is going to take a long time, because of all the extra nooks and crannies that you’ll have to clean out. Because plastic isn’t as rigid, there are several more places for lint to hide, making your job all the more difficult.
Another necessary component that will go with any dryer vent brush, is an air compressor. Because the brush isn’t going to be able to pull out all of the lint that is in your ventilation system, you’ll need some way of knocking the rest loose. Opposed to actually pulling out all of the lint, a dryer vent brush is really more useful for simply knocking all of the lint clear. This way, you can attach an air compressor, and literally shoot the lint out of the vent. You just want to make sure that someone is standing prepared with a bag on the other end, to catch all of the remnants that will be flowing out.
You can find both a dryer vent brush and an air compressor, at any hardware store. Whether you typically shop at The Home Depot or Sears, you can find exactly what you need to clean your vents quickly and safely. You’ll want to clean out your ventilation system once every few months, just so that you can keep the area completely safe and clean. That way you greatly reduce your fire risk, and ensure that your dryer works as quickly and effectively as the day you first bought the machine.
